Child nutrition consultations

Is your child's eating worrying you to some degree? Here I explain how I work, my philosophy, what results to expect and when, and the practical side of working together.

Consultation

Our first meeting, where we go through your child’s eating, diet and eating behaviour in detail. It lasts up to 90 minutes.

What you can come with:

  • you need an assessment of your child’s eating and help building a balanced diet (including for children who can’t tolerate certain foods)
  • you need help organising meal times and the eating environment
  • refusing food or certain food groups/textures
  • you have started solids and need help moving to family meals
  • your child has difficulties with chewing and/or swallowing
  • your child is over 10–12 months and only eats puréed food
  • your child eats fewer than 20 foods and the list keeps shrinking

After the consultation you receive written recommendations, guides and extra materials on the topics you need.

Follow-up consultation

We meet again if the work needs to continue: we look at what has changed, I answer the questions that have come up, and we adjust the recommendations. It lasts 60 minutes.

Not everyone needs follow-ups. They are most helpful if:

  • food refusal or refusal of certain food groups has lasted more than a month
  • your child has difficulties with chewing and/or swallowing
  • your child’s diet is very limited
  • the situation needs to be followed over time with gradual changes

Good afternoon.

Every time I watch my child eat, thanks to you, I am delighted. Now we are both completely at ease! And at last we eat together and enjoy it! That is what I dreamed of. Thank you for being there

Olgachild nutrition consultation: food refusal, refusing new foods

I want to thank you for the consultation on introducing solids for my daughter. Everything was explained in detail — how to help in our situation, clear and useful videos showing exactly what to do with the baby — and most importantly, we saw a result from the very first time: my daughter is interested in food, we are happy 🤩🥳

Yulia, good afternoon. We are so pleased with today’s meals

We gave our daughter freedom — yes, there is mess, but she EATS! With no fuss and with pleasure

She eats at least 90 percent

All in all, we found the key to our daughter and figured ourselves out

Thank you

Questions and answers
How many consultations will I need?

We always start with one consultation. If the situation doesn't make you panic or feel very anxious, and the problem appeared recently (for example, your child has been refusing food or a food group for less than a month), or you need help putting together a varied and balanced diet for your child and the whole family, one consultation is usually enough.

If the problem has been going on for a long time and dozens of books, blogs, articles and videos haven't helped, you will most likely need follow-up consultations. For example, if:

  • refusal of food and/or a food group has lasted more than a month
  • your child has difficulties with chewing/swallowing
  • your child eats fewer than 20 foods
  • you need support while your child's eating behaviour is being adjusted

We decide together how many meetings are needed as the work goes on.

Do you work with adults?

I work with the whole family at once: you can't sort out a child's eating and eating behaviour while everything else in the family stays the same.

What don't I do? I don't change your eating habits to fit my idea of what's right. Together we build an eating system that lets the whole family eat on a schedule that suits you and enjoy the foods you love.

Which tests should we do before the consultation? Will you prescribe supplements for my child?

I don't order tests or interpret them (even though I understand them a little), I don't make diagnoses and I don't prescribe treatment. All of that is outside my remit.

If you already have test results and our work calls for input from a medical specialist (for example, a paediatrician or a gastroenterologist), I may suggest you take the results to that specialist, or I may consult them myself on related questions, letting you know.

If you have a haemoglobin and ferritin test, I ask about it for reference only: it helps me understand the situation, but it is never used for a diagnosis.

I don't prescribe dietary supplements — their effectiveness and safety have not been proven.

I'd also like to say that I don't ban gluten, dairy or sugar. No food bans at all. But if your child has, say, an egg allergy or gluten intolerance, I'll help you plan a diet that meets every standard of safety and nutrient balance.

How does the work go?

How it works:

  • you pay for the consultation by bank transfer
  • after payment I send you instructions for filming videos, a link to a questionnaire and a food diary form, which you fill in for 4–7 days depending on the situation
  • once everything is ready, you send me the materials, we pick an exact time and have a video call (Telegram or Zoom)
  • after the consultation you receive written recommendations and extra materials (handouts, guides and lectures on the topics you need)

If changes in your child's eating need to be tracked and the diet adjusted gradually, and quick changes aren't possible (for example, with long-term food refusal or selective eating), we arrange follow-up consultations after the first one.

How soon will I see results?

Every case is different. In my practice there have been situations where the first changes came at the very next meal, and others where we saw small changes after 1–2 weeks.

You definitely shouldn't count on quick results — be prepared for long, daily work on your child's eating. I know that doesn't sound very encouraging. But the results will come!

What guarantee is there that my child will start eating?

I would love to guarantee that your child will start eating straight after we work together. But I can't.

The thing is, there are four parties in our work: you, your little one, me, and circumstances beyond our control.

I can only answer for myself and my knowledge. I will give you as much information about your situation as I can, and all my recommendations will be sensible, take your child's individual needs into account and fit your family as closely as possible.

Most of the work will be done by you, and success depends a great deal on how well you manage to follow the recommendations, respond to changes and not give up.

Then there is your little one, who isn't always ready to move at the pace we would like — we take their personality and interests into account too.

We leave a very small share for circumstances beyond our control: your child falls ill, you have to go away urgently, and other situations like these where we can't really influence the outcome.

Why have a consultation when everything is on the internet?

It's true: if you look hard enough, you can find absolutely everything — recommendations, approaches to children's eating, the psychology of eating behaviour. But:

  • there is far too much information, and it is often contradictory
  • out of that huge amount of information you need to pick out what will help your particular child. That's where individual work helps, so you aren't burdened with things you don't need right now
I've already worked with a nutrition specialist / paediatrician / gastroenterologist and nothing helped

That happens. Sometimes you need to look for “your” specialist, someone you feel comfortable with. That is completely normal.

If you're not sure whether we'd be a good fit, I'm always happy to have a 10–15 minute video chat to talk through what worries you about your child's eating and explain how the work is organised.

It's completely free — just message me if you'd like that.
